Alcatraz Island

Alcatraz Island was once home to the most infamous Federal Penitentiary in the United States. From 1934 to 1963 Alcatraz was home to some of the nations most notorious mobsters, bank robbers and murders including James “Whitey” Bulger and  Al Capone. During this time many escapes were planned which resulted in 6 deaths from inmates being shot while escaping, two confirmed drowning deaths and five presumed drowning deaths. To this day people say they can hear voices of the violent inmates of the past telling them to leave.

Waverly Hills Sanatorium

When Jefferson County, Kentucky faced a tuberculosis outbreak in the early 1900’s, Waverly Hills Sanatorium was constructed. Due to the high number of deaths from the infectious disease many have experienced paranormal activity including seeing ghosts and hearing voices. Myths and local legends still surround the now abandoned sanatorium, but people still claim to  have experience paranormal activity.

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

Built in the 1860’s, the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was originally meant to house up to 250 patients but by the 1950’s the asylum had become ridiculously over crowded and 2,400 patients called it home. Because of the nature of the building and the time period that it was active many believe that the tormented souls of the criminally insane still reside there. The asylum finally closed its doors in 1994 due to changes in the treatment of the types of patients the asylum catered to.
